Significant Clinical Manifestations for Asthma-By Edterchelle Soriano

AsthmaThe signs and symptoms of Asthma may vary from mild to severe forms. It depends on the ability of the person to cope with this condition. Oftentimes, it occurs to someone who is exposed to several external factors that can predispose them to suffer from the asthma attacks.

It is very important for them to understand these manifestations in order to find the best medical attention whenever it occurs.

Below are the common signs and symptoms of asthma:

  1. Difficulty of Breathing (dyspnea);
  2. Chest pain or tightness;
  3. Inability to acquire good sleeping pattern due to breathing problems;
  4. Presence of wheezing during exhalation (the most common sign of asthma); and
  5. Coughing or severe wheezing which becomes worst when the person suffers from flu or colds.

These symptoms are commonly manifested by person with bronchial asthma. However, people who are diagnosed with this condition may also need to understand the following manifestations that can indicate the severity of bronchial asthma. These manifestations are:

  1. Signs and symptoms of asthma which occurs more frequent and troublesome;
  2. Increased respiratory rate (more than 30 respiratory cycles per minute “number of inhalation and exhalation”); and
  3. Frequent use of quick self-inhaler.

                    

If these manifestations occur, it is best that they need to seek medical attention at the soonest possible time. The purpose for this is to prevent the occurrence of complication.

Additionally, there are several occasions wherein people who are exposed to these external stimuli that can trigger bronchial asthma attack. One of the most basic forms of diagnosing someone with asthma is through assessment of the person’s environment. Through this, the medical doctor will be able to identify the source of the attack which triggers the occurrence of signs and symptoms.

Below are the common environmental and external stimuli that can activate asthma attack:

  1. Work (Occupational Asthma)
  • It refers to the irritants which are currently present in the workplace. These substances are commonly inhaled by the person with asthma which may trigger the manifestations of the condition. These include dust, fumes and gases. It is advisable that people with asthma who are exposed to these irritants should wear protective mask. It prevents them from inhaling these substances;
  1. Allergens (Allergy-Induced Asthma)
  • Another stimulus that can trigger the asthma attack is allergen. These substances can be inhaled by the person with asthma. The sources of these irritants are animal dander, pollens and insects (cockroaches); and
  1. Activity (Exercise-Induced Asthma)
  • The humidity of the environment can also trigger the asthma attack. A person with bronchial asthma who is exposed to extreme cold or hot weather will suffer from the occurrence of bronchial asthma.

It is very important to identify the following signs and symptoms including the factors that can trigger the asthma attacks because this will serve as a guide for everybody. The purpose for this article is to teach everyone about the basic background of bronchial asthma.
